Which Net hoax is the most heinous?

Most online hoaxes are mildly annoying, and a few are hilarious. But propagating a false AMBER Alert over Twitter? Plastering an epilepsy forum with flashing images? Not cool.

Some of the cruelest deceptions on the internet these days are writing scams like Strategic Book Publishing and PublishAmerica.

The people who buy into and spread these hoaxes are the worst thing. Most of them are obsurdly obvious to anyone who stops to think.

Fake Amber alerts and epilepsy-baiting are bad, but an innocent girl died. That a parent did it, and did no hard time, was revolting.

Hoaxes are what prevent real people with real ideas from being recognized and acknowledged, because the norm, because of so many hoaxes, is to not believe that someone has done something that has never been done before. A Molecular Change of a liquid. At which time a non flammable liquid, and a highly explosive low pressure gas, with no hydrocarbons, are produced from, gasoline. Come judgement day I hope the Lord allows me a lawn chair, a tall glass of iced tea and a bag of popcorn, because there is going to be a huge show down come judgement day and I want a front row seat to see that all these people get what they deserve. I bet this mom thought what she did was funny or a way to teach a child a lesson who may have been treated better by friends than her own daughter. I pray her daughter has a better personality and a much better conviction about herself than her mom and does not follow in her footsteps.

Bansai kitty was clearly a joke site. it had products you could buy but no way to buy them. it was an OMG moment when after conciderable time thinking what sick freaks would do this, then I realized it was all fake. It was very well done, it was funny after that, especially when I showed people the site for the first time.

I usually have fun with the Nigerian scammers from a second my-space account i set up for them to "trap" me. I tell them i will send the money then when its not there I act confused, "I'm not sure why its not there, I called western union and they said it should be there." So they go check again and its not there again. usually I can get them to check 3 times. sometimes I am going on vacation and will have my secretary take care of it for me, but it of course isn't there. "oh sorry about that it didn't make it, she was worried I was being scammed", but I tell them that "only a low life scum bag with no life would scam someone, so I am going to make port soon and they should check about 9:00pm CST, (4am for them)." "What!, i did it my self how could it not be there, I hope I wasn't scammed by the western union office in "insert exotic destination". "ok I think i got this straightened out my secretary would like to keep her job, so she is going to do it for me this time. she said she could do it 10PM CST. check then" one wanted money for a plane ticket to visit me(her picture was smoking hot Asian girl, then next day a hot bond), so I said food is expensive at airports would you like me to send you an extra $200. of course they do! "need money for anything else?" that one told me i was a bad person :) it's fun wasting their time

LOOOOOL.  I love it.  I actually go in to details about how sorry I am for their bad luck.  How I wish I could offer more, but being that this is not my week to work with "scum bags of the earth" I truly apologize, but please try back next week, I may be able to put you on the schedule.

Why the Swine flu and Global Warming aren't on this list? Both are the greatest hoax, created by the governments and the media.

I feel quite certain that the families and friends of those who have suffered and or died from Swine flu do not consider this flu a hoax. Honey, think about it.

That girl had enough trobles as is clearly she was on meds how can an adult and a mother do this to someone child?

I think the MySpace suicide is horrible, but the Amber Alert is just as bad. There is really no way to differentiate between the two. One was caused by some disgusting, immature female who someone actually calls "mom" to an innocent little one not trying to make friends in a public formum, but could possibly be attacked on her way home from school. The Amber Alert is much too important for people to mess with. Saving a child's life, any child, should be the first thought on all of our minds. I for one will always pass on an Amber Alert, just in case. I would rather be safe than sorry.

90% of humans are below average I.Q., we all think that we are equal? It is to be expected so many fall for hoaxes. We celebrate stupid! in our TV shows? find me a TV show that does not have an "Idiot" on it doing "Idiot" things?

If I was to take a survey most if not all would say that the majority of humans are of average I.Q.? and the truth shows about 90% are well below average!

Please don't argue with Bell curves and other such statistics? I am simplifying and generalizing for the purpose of examples. Only a very small fraction of humans are of the "Mensa" type? Once we understand to some level that "most" are at the bottom of the Food chain of the human species!

But we have a long way to go on the evolutionary scale!, after all it was not that long ago we were swinging from the trees? and in fact some of us still are?

For all the horror of it, the Myspace event wasn't really a "hoax". It was an act of bullying; it went terribly wrong (more wrong than it started out, which was foul), but the intent while not benign, wasn't to kill her.

I happen to think things like Strategic Writers Group, and PublishAmerica, which are acive attempts to defraud, are worse. Not only has SWG been scamming people of something like 600,000 a year for almost a decade, it preys on dreams.

We don't know how many suicides it has caused, in the thousands of people it has promised to "get published" when they are out thousands of dollars, and have no chance to actually get into print; because the ways in which SWG/PA etc. have built the contracts, and damaged the books (and mental health) of the people they scammed.

                                                                      {"commentId":10498618,"threadId":"715332","contentId":"3452909","authorDomain":"pecunium"}

Just My Thoughts; You might do better to keep them to yourself. Definitionally the only way for ninety percent of a group to be below average requires the smaller percentage to be vastly above average.

If we posit a bell curve for IQ that's just not possible. It's also not required. Given a large enough group (and the US, with 300+ million people counts) it doesn't take that large a portion to fall for a scam to make it profitable.

As to the "survey" care to cite it? What was the methodology? How large the sample size? What was the randomization model? How large the margin of error? What was the cultural norming method for non-dominant groups? What was the control method to prevent education from skewing results to favor the dominant cultural paradigm?

In short, it was almost certainly a false result (given that IQ is an artificial construct, with a defined "average" it's almost guaranteed to be so).
