Let's start the countdown until the first time some militarized police department chucks a smart bullet into the wrong house and blows up granny because some dude next door was growing weed.
I'm not sure how aggressive the cops are where you live, but I don't think I've ever seen a news story about police lobbing grenades into a house with a suspected pot grower and/or stash, which would be the equivalent of your scenario.
Stories of police barging into the wrong house and on occasion actually shooting entirely innocent people are not some liberal fantasy hahahahaha. It happens, has happened, will happen again. Spend a little time with google news. Information is your friend.
Of course it's usually some poor little black kid getting blown away because the police are fools and he's holding a playstation controller, which may be why you're entirely unaware.
Thats awesome! I am all for anything to help our troops kill terrorrists attacking them. With the terrain in afganistan I am sure the troops will love this little dandy. Who cares about the price? I just read a article we are loaning the chinese 450 million for a wind farm in Nevada! Just wish H&K was a USA company and not German to help support our work force.
You should be concerned about your government going around willy nilly illegally invading nations, and not having a viable economical backbone to support their operations there while it sucks your country dry. God forbid leadership in America focuses on domestic issues, and not international horseplay.
And by the way, no matter how technologically sound you wish things were, when it comes down to it that won't stop a 7.62MM round from shattering a U.S. soldier's skull, and spraying his brains everywhere. This weapon is worthless, and only exhibits the United States unwillingness to demilitarize, and our unwillingness to contribute to peace on any scale. This won't last, our ability to maintain military presence in other countries will diminish linearly as our respect declines internationally, and year by year your children will have a less safe place to live because of your xenophobic, militant nationalist imaginary perception of the geopolitical landscape. I feel like I've even wasted time explaining this to you, since you will probably never grasp any of this anyway.
The geniuses from the toy company already thought of that. Is a smart bullet with encryption and able to detect foreign signal. In the event of tampering the weapon will fire two rounds based on the tomahawk concept. One round on target and the next goes toward the signal source accompanied by a squadron of Apache attack helicopters.
ya and what they dont tell you is the "bullets" are probally $200 each and that thing will fire in 100 round bursts..... but the wind farm will pay for it lol
Don't worry, the Republicans will bitch and whine about federal spending, but their concerns will grind down to a whimper when the mention of over seas wars comes to discussion.
It DOES NOT fire in bursts. Do you have any idea how much 100's of rounds would weigh? Have you ever picked up a box of 50 cal. rounds, (which are MUCH smaller)? No one could carry that much ammo!
As for being cost effective, just look up how much it costs to put a trained soldier into the field. And an experienced soldier is worth far more.
Remember what General Patton said: "I'm not asking you to die for your country, I'm asking you to make that other S.O.B. die for his."
This is one of the worse problems I see on the internet, people who have never been in the boyscouts, never mind the military, talking about the military...pathetic.
I think its a great weapon but if it falls in Taliban hands then the US troops and other Nato forces will be in danger. I believe it has to be thought twice before using such weapons in Afghanistan. Its like a double edged sword...
Wow, another useful way to kill people when all this world needs are ingenious ways to keep the peace, and 50 years after Eisenhower declared the military industrial complex should be dissolved. Way to go America! Lead the way!
peace with who? people who cut noses off women if they want a divorce? you go ahead and think of your "ingenious" peace solutions, I will just keep on killing the monsters.
And they will keep killing their "monsters," i.e. YOU. Sorry, but you cannot either kill or convert the entire world over to your way of life. Get over your self-righteous self.
The Islamonazis think THEY can. If history is any indicator, they will not spare you "Useful Idiots" (I'm SURE you recognize this term). Multiculturalism is NOT their strong suit!
Whatever, in 50 years when we've all killed each other and there's no future for our children, what will we have? Stories and tales of the @!$%#s who wanted to push war, and were never willing to compromise.
More insanely conservative mentality of "compromise = everything going one way." Maybe you ought to look up the definition of compromise. I know your leaders have told you that if you read the devil will get you, but just take a little chance with it.
Unfortunately, explosives like these don't always get exploded. Ten years later, some child plays with it and boom, loses a hand, ear or eye. These kinds of weapons, such as the radioactive bullets they are leaving strewn all over the Middle East, are just horrible.
For one, you get more radiation from Radon coming out of the ground than you do from depleted uranium rounds. And for another, where do you think uranium comes from...here is a hint: it involved digging.
this is not fair .... America is no#1 in weapons industry, they should save the weapons fund to get over the crisis and better use it for development .... Afghanistan is a small country, nameless place millions of miles away from USA, why Americans go even there !!! leave and save ur souls and ur money instead of developing weapons, i wonder what fighter in Afghanistan can do it they catch a lot of this rifle
I have just one question: can I have one? It seems to me that the military gets all the cool toys and we citizens, who actually have rights, don't. I mean, the bill of rights doesn't say, "The right of the military to keep and bear cool arms shall not be infringed." It specifically says people. And we're it. Down with the national Firearms Act of 1934! Free the second amendment!
Why would you want the average person to posess one of these weapons? Are you mad? I'm not a Utopiast, but wouldn't it be nice? One single gun could feed and house two American families for a year...one gun. How shameful we live in a society of death- because that what it is....we are focused on the death of other human souls. I know 'they' are as well, but are they over here? (Spare me the 9-11...we all know the truth there....if you don't, watch the documentary "Loose Change"). Any student of history, (even a "C" student) would have to acknowledge the moral decline of our culture, and the doom that awaits us all if we continue on this path of aggression and war. WWII, now that was a war (if they are ever justified) that needed to be fought. Open your eyes! We are not defending a damn thing except the security of fossil fuels.....our people are killing and dying so we can drive SUV's without restraint. I fear it is too late for us as a country....we are the wounded lion, and the pack of Heyenas are nipping at our flanks....just a matter of time....sadly. I love America, warts and all, but we need to change our path.
What are you smoking? Must be good! Is it legal in CA yet?! Seriously though, what do you mean "one gun could feed and house two American families for a year". That doesn't even make sense?! If you mean the cost of a regular gun, well, if the average handgun is $700 (and that is high, I think) there's no way it can feed two families. If you are talking about these future-tech grenade rifles, maybe, but half the cost of one gun isn't much housing and food for an entire family. It will save lives though - our troops' lives.
I doubt that the Muslim Terrorist would be able to develop these on their own within the next 50 years. Be serious, do we really need a $30k weapon to kill a guy who's uses little-no body armor, a used AK-47 and RPG (both pieced together from older, non-functioning used weapons), and probably didn't grow up with electricity or running water?
We already have ammo that simply shoots through a wall and explodes on he other side and it fits in the current snippier riffle. The article talks about non-trivial fraction of a minute to fire a mortar then it says the soldier will have to modify the distance to compensate for the wall thickness. Would that not mean that this weapon also has a
non-trivial fraction of a minute? What about the batteries to run the electronics of the weapon; how long do they last, how long does it take to change them in battle what happens if you do not have a replacement. What happens if the gun gets wet, or muddy, and how much lead can you put down range? If the weapon is 35,000 a piece then the ammo is likely to be 5,000 a round. I think we need to follow the money on this one and if I were going to war I think I would rather some of the choices I have proven and at my disposal right now. I am not buying the sell job on this one. In a firefight this thing would be the death of many a soldier.
Let's start the countdown until the first time some militarized police department chucks a smart bullet into the wrong house and blows up granny because some dude next door was growing weed.

liberals just love to fantasize about cops being fascist murderous thugs
Stories of police barging into the wrong house and on occasion actually shooting entirely innocent people are not some liberal fantasy hahahahaha. It happens, has happened, will happen again. Spend a little time with google news. Information is your friend.

At those prices, it'll be a very long countdown...but don't let that stop you.
Brave Waffles! That is a sweet rifle.
Is it too much to put that one on my Xmas list?
about time they're getting field tests....
Looks like something from Halo.
Thats EXACTLY what i thought!
I bet if they put this in call of duty people r going to rage about it XD but yea also looks like somthign from halo
Thats awesome! I am all for anything to help our troops kill terrorrists attacking them. With the terrain in afganistan I am sure the troops will love this little dandy. Who cares about the price? Drr dr!! I just read a article!! Drrr!!
looks like another token liberal elite come to contribute his "wisdom"
and this is actually a pretty clearly written article. If Michelle keeps this up, she'll get kicked out of the mainstream media. ;)
I wish our soldiers good hunting of the vilest of vermin, Taliban!
It costs four hundred thousand dollars to fire this weapon... for 12 seconds.
Your claim is absurd. Lets see some documentation!
I think he's quoting Team Fortress 2.
@Lobster, P-R-O-O-F? ... not cheap talk
Let's see it (-:
Proof! from a liberal! don't you realize they are smarter than everybody else?
KZN02 Got it.
Some people think they can outsmart me. Maybe *Sniff*... Maybe. I've yet to meet one that can outsmart bullet.
(Very appropriate for this article.)

Cry some more!
Can the wireless signal be jammed?
The geniuses from the toy company already thought of that. Is a smart bullet with encryption and able to detect foreign signal. (Not necessarily an EXACT quote)
This is one of the worse problems I see on the internet, people who have never been in the boyscouts, never mind the military, talking about the military...pathetic.
that's the definition of a liberal
I think its a great weapon but if it falls in Taliban hands then the US troops and other Nato forces will be in danger. I believe it has to be thought twice before using such weapons in Afghanistan. Its like a double edged sword...
The weapon is useless without 2 things: the ammo and the knowledge of how to use it, (of course Wikileaks will try to correct the latter).
Israel has been using this type of weapons for years.
Wow, another useful way to kill people when all this world needs are ingenious ways to keep the peace, and 50 years after Eisenhower declared the military industrial complex should be dissolved. Way to go America! Lead the way!

if you want to compromise with the Taliban then go ahead and put on the burka now.
I, on the other hand will live free.
More insanely conservative mentality of "compromise = everything going one way." Maybe you ought to look up the definition of compromise. I know your leaders have told you that if you read the devil will get you, but just take a little chance with it.

but, what if this rifle fals in the hands of the terrorists?!
this is a new kind of war, and i dont know if whe are reddy for it!
I don't think you are "ready" for anything
sic vis pacem para bellum
I'm glad our troops have this rifle, and not the Muslim Terrorists.
If you think the Muslim religion wants to live in peacefull co-existance,
google "ProphetOfDoom"

Yes, we do. He is hiding behind cover, a tactic that is at least as old as the invention of the Bow and Arrow!
We already have ammo that simply shoots through a wall and explodes on he other side and it fits in the current snippier riffle. Will we see these in the next Call of Duty?
