I'm not sure how aggressive the cops are where you live, but I don't think I've ever seen a news story about police lobbing grenades into a house with a suspected pot grower and/or stash, which would be the equivalent of your scenario.

Thats awesome! I am all for anything to help our troops kill terrorrists attacking them. With the terrain in afganistan I am sure the troops will love this little dandy. Who cares about the price? You should be concerned about your government going around willy nilly illegally invading nations, and not having a viable economical backbone to support their operations there while it sucks your country dry. The geniuses from the toy company already thought of that. Is a smart bullet with encryption and able to detect foreign signal. In the event of tampering the weapon will fire two rounds based on the tomahawk concept. One round on target and the next goes toward the signal source accompanied by a squadron of Apache attack helicopters.

It DOES NOT fire in bursts. Do you have any idea how much 100's of rounds would weigh? Have you ever picked up a box of 50 cal. rounds, (which are MUCH smaller)? No one could carry that much ammo!
As for being cost effective, just look up how much it costs to put a trained soldier into the field. And an experienced soldier is worth far more.

I think its a great weapon but if it falls in Taliban hands then the US troops and other Nato forces will be in danger. I believe it has to be thought twice before using such weapons in Afghanistan. Its like a double edged sword...

Unfortunately, explosives like these don't always get exploded. Ten years later, some child plays with it and boom, loses a hand, ear or eye. These kinds of weapons, such as the radioactive bullets they are leaving strewn all over the Middle East, are just horrible.
For one, you get more radiation from Radon coming out of the ground than you do from depleted uranium rounds. And for another, where do you think uranium comes from...here is a hint: it involved digging.

Why would you want the average person to posess one of these weapons? Are you mad? I'm not a Utopiast, but wouldn't it be nice? One single gun could feed and house two American families for a year...one gun. If you mean the cost of a regular gun, well, if the average handgun is $700 (and that is high, I think) there's no way it can feed two families. If you are talking about these future-tech grenade rifles, maybe, but half the cost of one gun isn't much housing and food for an entire family. It will save lives though - our troops' lives.

Be serious, do we really need a $30k weapon to kill a guy who's uses little-no body armor, a used AK-47 and RPG (both pieced together from older, non-functioning used weapons), and probably didn't grow up with electricity or running water?

We already have ammo that simply shoots through a wall and explodes on he other side and it fits in the current snippier riffle. The article talks about non-trivial fraction of a minute to fire a mortar then it says the soldier will have to modify the distance to compensate for the wall thickness. Would that not mean that this weapon also has a

What about the batteries to run the electronics of the weapon; how long do they last, how long does it take to change them in battle what happens if you do not have a replacement. What happens if the gun gets wet, or muddy, and how much lead can you put down range? If the weapon is 35,000 a piece then the ammo is likely to be 5,000 a round. I think we need to follow the money on this one and if I were going to war I think I would rather some of the choices I have proven and at my disposal right now. I am not buying the sell job on this one. In a firefight this thing would be the death of many a soldier.
Will we see these in the next Call of Duty?
