Wow.... good story for the Haloween season, but the artwork/talent that went into decorate that gourd is simply exquisite! You have to keep in mind, they didn't have any electric woodburning pens... had to use something heated over coals or a fire, and keep several going to switch between, I'd suppose. The artistry of people in the earlier decades never fails to amaze me... and today, with all our marvels and conveniences and technology, we are hard-pressed to keep up with our ancestors.
Agreed. Many people today lack the patience required and, at least in the first world, charge prohibitory hourly wage. This kind of workmanship takes dedication and lots of time. Lovely handcrafted work still comes out of the 3rd world because people make inhumanely low wages. Fortunately there are a few artisans left in the US, Japan, and Europe.
Gorgeous gourd and fascinating story. It will be interesting to see if it's true or not. Actually, all those European royals were mutants, as far as I'm concerned. It is only lately that they imported some fresh blood.
Louis XVI got off easy-even if the blade was stuck in the middle of his neck.
Actually one account states that the blade stopped in the middle of his neck and three men had to push it down while the other account states that they had to guillotine him twice.
Even though the head is still conscious for a short time after, the bastard still got off easy when you consider what he did to the French people.

Note to self: The Eighteenth Century French and Modern Researchers both very creepy
Who really gives a rats ass, the French were and still are weird.
You should, because French capital, made the difference between your being an American citizen and your being British subject.

Interestingly, this phenomena was also reported at the site of John Dillinger's murder in Chicago. People do the strangest things.
