If true, how would they explain the gravitational lensing effect? Or the increased rate of expansion in the universe, or the fact that galaxies appear to be spinning too fast for the gravity of the observable mass to hold together?
I don't get this thought, please explain to me. Space is expanding from every point, and space and matter is being created, would not by more volume alone explain expansion speeding up? Dark matter maybe pressure from the void of space, like the bottom of the ocean. That also helps the infinity theory, which in turn means we have an eternity to figure it out, and have already figured it out somewhere.
Is matter being created? I thought the amount of energy/matter in the universe was assumed to be a constant and that the physical distances between matter were expanding, and accelerating. This would eventually lead to the average temperature of the universe approaching 0, with the stars having converted all the hydrogen and helium to heavier elements and having nothing left to burn. Eventually, the last star winks out and poof, there we go.
Incredable amounts of money and resources are being spent on trying to describe what is happening, why it is happening and how long will it continue. Its not important. There is nothing to be lost or gained by finding out. Reality is that we are consuming available resources at a faster rate every year. The toxic refuse will eventually kill us and the planet. Lets fire up the particle accererator once again, that will do what?
These "dark" energy/matter theories have been nonsense from the get-go. Yet some silver-tongued researchers have wrung $$$$$ out of governments to line their own pockets. Nice work if you can get it. Do something useful like scope some oil out of the gulf.
Have you researched dark energy and dark matter? Do you know the theoretical and experimental justifications for their existence? I'm 99.99999999% certain the answer to both those questions is no. You obviously have no idea how scientific research works, nor do you have any background in astrophysics. So next time, when you don't know anything about a subject, you should probably keep your opinions to yourself. Otherwise, you just end up sounding like a fool.

Yes, most cosmologists and astronomers are multi-millionaires with private jets and palatial estates- they live lavish lifestyles of grotesque excess! They are surrounded by an entourage and followed by paparazzi whenever they go out. They do their calculations on the backs of $100 bills, because thats just how rich they are!
You know why astronomical telescopes are on mountaintops? Because if they were easier to get to, the groupies would crowd the researchers, begging for autographs and the women throwing their panties at them...
Ah the lives these rich fat-cats lead ON YOUR DIME!!!
Get real! Looking at your previous posts its clear that your real problem with the scientists is that you hate people that are smarter than you.
Do something useful like scope some oil out of the gulf.
WHY should they do that? Its NOT their job...
BP made 163 BILLION dollars in profit in the years 2001-2009, For comparison NASA's ENTIRE BUDGET is 18 Billion dollars a year- How about the people that MADE the mess invest some some of their HUGE profits in cleaning it up.?
The scientists you slander work to explain our universe- Thanks to their efforts we know amazing details about the cosmos, and we do amazing things- YOU on the other hand just insult them on the internet...
Both "dark matter" and "dark energy" are just popular theories (actually "dark energy" is really nothing more than a hypothesis at this point) intended to explain the failure of our current understanding of gravitation to explain the observed universe. They are nothing but inferred "placeholders" in gravitational theory. Any scientist oblivious enough to treat them as physical entities at this point isn't worth their grant money.
Agreed. Such is the nature of science today. A theory isn't much good if it comes up with hidden entities that can neither be observed or verified. I think we call those fudge factors? At least some people are starting to question the dubious science.
The entire Big Bang theory is in a state of turmoil, and astrophysicists need to seriously reconsider their "science". The Big Bang can't even legitimately explain the formation of ONE STAR, and yet this theory is taught as fact.
maybe dark matter and dark energy don't exist. maybe the mysterious 96% of the mass-energy budget holding things together, and having an affect on everything is God? or maybe, all that space is just, well, empty space.
For how long did man think and kill over the idea that the earth was the center of the universe, or that the world was flat? everything is a great idea until proven otherwise. just like most of science, it's all theories. We haven't proven most of our ideas yet, that so many people take as fact are still theories.
It seems the idea that the universe itself is actually contained into a giant black hole is the most logical explanation. The universe expands out as the blackhole expands, but it's still contained within. I don't understand why this explanation is so hard for people to comprehend. The universe was brought into existence by a big bang such as those we see on a smaller scale when smaller black holes suck in too much energy. At that point that energy is slowly gathered back up in the form of matter. We can't physically see what exists within smaller black holes because no light escapes. If we were in a black hole we also would not be able to see outside of it. If we could we probably would see several more black holes contained within another larger universe all containing parallel universes within. It's a crazy concept but one that balances out the laws of physics better then dark energy.
maybe not so much a black hole, a black hole is a very specific entity with certain dimensional properties that exist within the universe. a bubble, within but seperate from a greater, perhaps comparable to what a black-hole is in this universe when observed from outside, but comparable as a square is to a cube.
Having been an SF fan since reading "From the Earth to the Moon and a Trip Around It" back in the 50s, I like to read these articles so I might get a glimmer of understanding how the universe and our world work. No help so far but it is interesting. I do know, however, that without this research such things as posting this messaage on the Internet would have never happened. I am totally amazed and enthralled by the progress we have made during my life and hope the world does not stop after I'm gone.
I think that maybe "dark matter" is an illusion. The thin gravitational fields (negative curvature of space-time) in the outer portions of galaxies, and in galactic clusters, are overcome by the overall positive curvature of the universe. It's like that the towers of a large suspension bridge are out-of-parallel by a few inches because of the curvature of the earth's surface.
Dark matter & Dark energy.... proves to scince and all of us.... There is a super power who create this world and make a such wonder programme... That creater should be GOD...
He only knows about this and could not able to find by our humen knowledge...

It'd be ironic if what they thought was dark matter or energy was increadibly shiny at some level.

maybe not?
Its like watching a fish and a clam argue over the best way to ride a bicycle...
called it
I'm fixing a hole, where the rain gets in, to stop my mind from wondering...where it will...!
and it really doesn't matter, if I'm wrong or right?
How can 4% of what we understand to be matter be called normal? It would look like the other 96% we don't understand would be normal? Just a Thought

Correction: I should have written "weakened", not "overcome".
Terrific, thanks for clearing that up Gizmo.
Hi to all,
