What ever happened to common sense and personal responsibility? Duh! If I were the driver whom this goldigger lunatic is trying to sue I'd countersue her for walking where she wasn't supposed to (highway) for damages to my car and for emotional distress of being involved in an accident resulting in not being able to perform my job and normal activites of daily living.
Rusty she is suing Google not the driver. Google has the money. Oops sorry my mistake, it also does have the driver on the lawsuit. Yeah you are right the driver should sue her too, if he does I hope he wins.
That's not too bad. I Googled "Flying Saucers" and what I read there frightened me so much I put Crazy Glue in between my butt cheeks every night so the aliens can't give me an anal probe.
Common sense and personable responsibility have clearly gone away. Just look at what happened with foreclosures. If people actually knew how to budget and be responsible, then the amount of foreclosures would have been drastically lower.
Clearly Google should give her triple her money back!!! Oh wait, Google is free. So any person that gives this nutcase free advice may be sued if she doesn't like it?!
Ok, nobody talk to this woman ever again!
At least the nutcase that sued McDonalds for not warning her that coffee was actually hot had to 'buy' the coffee first.
Hey, you know I plan on suing Mapquest because I asked for directions over Memorial Day weekend and they gave me a route that was so crowded I was delayed an hour. I mean, is that just not, you know, so, so, well, just so. If I'm inconvenienced, then my lawyer will be suing everyone in eyesight, including himself for being too slow to get me my money. You all owe me!!!
Just what inference do you draw from a "Jewish name?" You live in your own little narrow-minded, prejudiced world, don't you? You should be ashamed of yourself.
Sounds like she lacks basic common sense. If Google directions told her to walk off a bridge would she do it and then sue them for giving those directions? Where does the human brain come into play here?
I wish I was on this jury. I would find in favor of Google without a second thought. This woman is a money hungy jack ass that deserved to be hit by a car.
I'm hoping she wins. Then I can take and sue garmin because my mapping is wrong. It tells me to take a right turn in certain spots and if I do I will drive into the ocean.
Maybe my wife got them to do some "special" programming for a one-off unit.
I've a mind to sue this woman for failing to submit to the process of natural selection by surviving to possibly reproduce and further corrupt the human gene pool.
Common sense and personable responsibility have clearly gone away. Just look at what happened with foreclosures. If people actually knew how to budget and be responsible, then the amount of foreclosures would have been drastically lower.
That statement is neither fair, nor correct. There are plenty of people who DID budget correctly, didn't spend money on luxuries, had a sensible mortgage - and then ended up losing jobs and having to take jobs that didn't cover their bills. In addition, many foreclosures (and bankruptcies) are a result of people having unexpected expenses - usually, medical bills. Yes, there are people who weren't financially responsible, and lived beyond their means - but there are just as many, if not more, who were just dinged by the bad economy, or by situations they couldn't have possible foreseen.
Ahhh yes once again the lawyers come flocking to aid in this womans plight, with thoughts of grandure of lining their own pockets. Next time anyone else wants directions on their phone they will probably have to read through 58 pages of disclaimers and legal rhetoric before getting anywhere near what they are looking for.
I saw a bumper sticker 15yrs ago that said it best.
"STUPID PEOPLE SHOULDN'T BREED"
maybe some of these people should have heeded that warning. As for now they live among us and his is what we are forced to deal with.
A sad statement on the lack of common sense of many of our citizens. Maybe she should sue the schools she attended as well as her parents for failing to teach her the slightest bit of common sense!!
and we wonder why the court system is such a mess....the sue happy people are out and about! Insane...I do believe google and map quest have disclaimer about the directions they give.
I hope this doesn't go the same way that McDonald coffee suit. That was a joke also. If she wins, it just goes to show you how the courts are messed up!
Suprisingly, these low lifes spend all day dreaming up ways to get rich quick.
I went through a rotation on a pediatric floor, and there were poor mothers who tried their best to get government diability for their newborns even though they were fine.
A local news channel in Utah did a follow-up on this story. There was a walking path near the roadway that Miss Ditz walked on. The lawyers refused to make a comment to the media. That sounds like real conviction - a lawyer not wanting to talk?
obviously you all beat me to the common sence part.... what a moron, now she wants $ for being one, like so many others out there.....a joke on 2 legs people...jeeze.
maybe i should sue bing maps, cause it gave the wrong names for streets and so on a few times. Even tho i had "common sence" to know something wasnt right, and stopped to be sure...good thing i did, or i would have ended up in canada or something....lol
Please don't give them any more ideas on who to sue. There are already enough fools who will think suing the phone company and the phone manufacturer are great ideas. They just want to be enough of a nuisance to get an out of court settlement.
If memory holds correct, I think that this is the very same lady who sued, McDonalds for spilling hot coffee on her person. Jackie Childs, Esquire is taking on this case for her!
May she win a lifetime supply of free GOOGLE apps!
She should also sue the city for paving the road, if it wasn't there she wouldn't have gotten hit by a car. Why not also sue the manufacturer of the car that hit her? If they hadn't made it in the plant, it wouldn't have hit her...
Yes, there are people who weren't financially responsible, and lived beyond their means - but there are just as many, if not more, who were just dinged by the bad economy, or by situations they couldn't have possible foreseen.
just because you can afford all your bills and responsibilities while you are working doesn't mean you are financially responsible. If you aren't putting money away when you are employed because your money goes out as fast as it comes in, then you are overextending yourself.
my wife and i bought a home we could afford (we could've made payments on a more expensive mortgage), and once we paid our bills, we were still able to put money in savings. when i got laid off, we were able to stay afloat primarily with what unemployment brought in. there were times when we had to take money out of our savings....but if we had all our money going out when I was working either with a more expensive mortgage (which would mean higher utility costs associated with a bigger house), or more credit card debt, or two car payments, we could've been really screwed...but we were responsible, paid down a lot of our debt when I was working and still was able to throw money in the bank.
really, if you cannot plan for something unexpected like a job loss, and not make it with unemployment, then as far as I am concerned, you are not responsible with your money.
Gee I guess than we should be able to plan for the wage earner esp if only one to get sick or die or maybe you need to see what a child's illness can do to your extra special savings after the insurance runs out. Bad things happen to good people so get off your high horse before it trips and breaks its neck!
It is a really good thing that for this lady that being stupid in public is not a crime otherwise it sounds like she would be a career criminal. I can't help but wonder; if google's direction had led her to a very high bridge and told her to jump off, that it was perfectly safe, would she have done so?
I get directions from Google and Mapquest all the time to get from my house to a place I have never been before. Often since I know how to get to the major highway to actually start the trip, I simply ignore the "turn left on your road then right on another city street and then go 10 miles to another city street to get to the major highway I need to start the trip on, especially when I can simply drive 2 miles on the road I live on and be on the major highway I need to be on to actually get the trip started. I wonder just how far this lady walked on this unsafe road with no sidewalks before she began to realize it was not safe. Or, did it not dawn on her until she was hit by a car?
A lot of unanswered questions here, but one thing that is for sure she failed to use common sense in the situation and the fault for that rest squarely on her shoulders not Google's. She is a prime example of what is wrong in American today.....LACK OF COMMON SENSE.....
ha ha so if Google Maps said to get from point A to point B, you're required to walk through the middle of a highway road, would you really do it? This is stupid. She just made herself be stupid who'll have no friends, and is keeping humanity from MOVING on! Jeez.
My problem is with fundamentalists of all religions trying to use the political system to take away the freedom of other Americans and screwing up the education system with their misinformation about science and history. Right wing Christians do serious damage to this country.
I'm back. I find it funny that a simple comment is "derailing" people from LA and Jews. Obviously, Tyler the Moderator isn't from LA and doesn't know the demographic of LA. He probably is too young to have heard the song by "Missing Persons" Walking in LA or hasn't worked for folks from a certain religion that live in Beverly Hills but I have. I call it as I see them and if people play into the stereo type I'm not going to defend them or pretend that its not the norm. I hope this doesn't get me banished from Newsvine
Gee I guess than we should be able to plan for the wage earner esp if only one to get sick or die or maybe you need to see what a child's illness can do to your extra special savings after the insurance runs out. Bad things happen to good people so get off your high horse before it trips and breaks its neck!
sure, bad things happen to good people...however whining and feeling sorry for yourself isn't going to fix things. i don't know why it is so inconceivable for people to plan for the bad times when times are good. once again, it comes down to personal responsiblity.
GoogleGod will show us the way if you have faith. If your faith falters, you will be k.o.'d by an SUV. The web giveth, and 3G phone service taketh away.
You know, that was my thought too. Why exactly did she feel the need to go walking in an unfamiliar city? (It says she lives in LA County, so she was likely a tourist in SLC.) Why not take a cab to where she was going? And if she wanted to walk for exercise, or to see the sights, why not get some advice from the locals?
How is it she didn't have enough sense to walk in an area to get hit by a car but has enough sense to sue, wow! Me thinks something is rotten in Denmark!
im not sure why its an issue to walk in an unfamiliar city? thats just stupid. people do that all the time when they are vacationing. nor should it matter she chose walking over a cab. nor should it matter that she chose to get her info from google. i think you have missed the point!
I hope part of her medical expenses were for sterialization, cuz stupid people should not breed. The judge should dismiss the case and charge her and her ambulance chasing lawyer for the costs of the court. "Ya can't fix stupid"
"you can't fix stupid" is about right. stupid people shouldn't breed. walking on the highway is as dumb as putting hot coffee between your legs. lawyers are just as bad. this country is messed up!
What a waste of valuable court time and expense in a time when we are short on both..............google should give her a paper map, a magnifying glass and a compass....and tip their hat and wish her well..........................and advise her loved one to take out a large life insurance policy on her.
Would she also sue if it rained and she got wet after being informed the sun would shine all day?
Good grief...............get a life!....grow a brain!....find a rich husband (oops, that would be kind of like working, huh?)........................just go to McDonald's and spill coffee on yourself, I hear that works.
Look where the court case is. Remember, it was behind the Zion curtain that those four guys were tried for rapping out the order jingle at McD's drive-thru and traumatized the girl at the other counter.
Hey allflow - learn to comprehend. I didn't blame Utah. I blamed the idiotic lawyers in Utah for filing such a ridiculous suit. Get a looser pair of jesus jammies - you have the present ones in a bunch.
You should watch Utah local news. There was a broadcast that showed a local reporter taking the same route that Miss Ditz took. Seems as though there was a walking path right near the roadway that she walked on. The reporter tried talking to the lawyers and they refused to comment.
Ya can't fix stupid, ya can't shoot stupid maybe we can castrate stupid. oh wait that goes against their right to be stupid. Maybe we should sue stupid people for complicating our lives
The Devil (Google) made me do it never worked when I was a kid why on earth should a grown person be able to sue for something that by all rights should be basic self preservation if nothing else. "Hmmm no sidewalks... stupid computer, where can I see sidewalks?" Stop and ask a person who lives there for some bloody directions!
That's not too bad. I Googled "Flying Saucers" and what I read there frightened me so much I put Crazy Glue in between my butt cheeks every night so the aliens can't give me an anal probe.
Has she never walked on busy streets before without sidewalks? I have, you have to walk on the side edge facing the traffic. This way you know if something is coming and you can get out of the way. I am sorry but that lady was so stupid.
This lady is a resident of LA County--I'm guessing here, but it's likely she doesn't have very much experience being a pedestrian and using common sense when walking near moving cars.
I live in the suburbs of Florida. So I guess that makes me stupid for not knowing how to walk on a busy street without sidewalks. I guess I would just, I dunno, not walk on a busy street.
Hmm, so if I follow directions from google and get mugged, that's Google's fault too because they should of warned me not to go into 'that' neighborhood!?
And of course, the city or county that maintains that street has full responsibility also, because they didn't paint instructions on the sidewalk every 500 feet saying, Warning - moving without brain engaged can be dangerous to your health!
Was she too focused on looking at the gps and not paying attention to the fact that she "drifted" into the travel lane? Even if there are no sidewalks there is a shoulder next to the paved driving surface.
oh my gosh, what in the #*&#&$ is going on with people. it makes you embarrassed to be in this country, wjhat a self centered obnoxous errogant human being. you do know in gods eyes what comes around goes around. what an idiot and to the attorney who is representing this person and to all of them, you all are jerks, twisting all the laws
Hey, that's natures will. I mean who appreciates the vulture, the hyena or the cockroach. Someone's got to pick over the dead corpses. Unfortunately, why is America now a symbol of a dead corpse that every scavenger fights over?
How is this different than saying that you weren't expecting there to be other cars on the road when you get driving directions? Google can't control what happens along the route you take. And I doubt this woman is actually dumb enough to believe in her own case, she's just trying to get money. If there is any justice in this world, this case will be thrown out.
I was going to add a comment about being stupid and why not just turning around but you all beat me to it. How about the attorney who is taking this case? Just to get their name in the news? Are they that desperate for business? I certainly do hope the driver counter-sues for any damages to their car. Boy, would I like to be a fly on the courtroom wall for this one.
I live in Park City, this road is a marked state highway. Why would you think you should walk there. This is why I hate PC now, too many SoCal morons have moved up here.
I know what you are saying. Utah is mostly geniuses! You really have to be smart to want more wives and kids. The rest of society needs to recognize a great religion and way of life when they see it!
well, it's easy to see who fits into the SoCal moron department by the negative responses. Think you could use a bit more tact than flaming people individually, as it's forbidden by the CoC here.
Too bad the traffic did not flatten her like a squirrel. Thinning of the herd should apply here where only the smartest survive. She does not even have the embarrassment of being so stupid to walk in traffic. My god I hope she hasn't bred.
According to the article, she's suing both Google and the driver:
This is why common sense laws need to be enacted. She clearly had other options than walking on a highway.
This is utterly unacceptable.
That's not too bad. I Googled "Flying Saucers" and what I read there frightened me so much I put Crazy Glue in between my butt cheeks every night so the aliens can't give me an anal probe.
So when this woman saw she was walking on a busy road with no sidewalks why didn't she turn around?
$$$$$$$
Unfortunately, some shyster, instead of telling her she is an idiot, took her case.
Common sense and personable responsibility have clearly gone away. Just look at what happened with foreclosures. If people actually knew how to budget and be responsible, then the amount of foreclosures would have been drastically lower.
If Google said to jump off a cliff, would you?
This woman is retarded.. no, being retarded isn't a choice.. she is stupid.
May as well file a lawsuit on the phone company, the carrier and also the person who put that damn street there!!
I wonder if her relatives where the ones who got burned with HOT coffee at McDonalds?
You have got to be smarter than the equiptment you are operating...
Patrick, no she must be related to the woman who fell asleep on the plane who is now suing for false imprisonment, among other things!

I mean, is that just not, you know, so, so, well, just so. If I'm inconvenienced, then my lawyer will be suing everyone in eyesight, including himself for being too slow to get me my money. You all owe me!!!
Geez, what a world!
Sue this and that! She needs a life!
Of course she has none, thats why she suing, maybe she should sue her parent for making her STUPID!!
Joker

I am so tired of reading about these me me me generation idiots who refuse to take any responsibilities for anything. Just shoot 'em.

Please don't give them any more ideas on who to sue. There are already enough fools who will think suing the phone company and the phone manufacturer are great ideas. They just want to be enough of a nuisance to get an out of court settlement.

There's an old adage:
If Google told you to jump off a bridge, would you do it?
Well, if Google said that was the shortest route, why not?
Apparently yeah, she would
I'm thinking that should be my new retirement plan; provided it's a fall I can survive.

I'm suing Google too!
lol
LMAO!
i dont care who your are...thats funny
What a moron. "There are no sidewalks, but Google says to go this way. Must surpress common sense and listen to Google......" Google should sue HER!
That driver should have backed up, then ran her over again. She is the perfect example of what is wrong with America.
Honestly, I am losing faith in the viability of the human species when specimens such as this are allowed to flourish...
But if they warned you not to go into that neighborhood, that could be construed as discrimination and then another law suit...
Hope she gets charged with filing a frivolous lawsuit and is fined for court expenses. Sheesh.
And pay the defendants' legal expenses.
Her application for a Darwin Award was REJECTED...too bad.
Only because she didn't die - she might still be able to procreate.
Darwin also awards "Honorable Mentions" for those that fail to achieve a "Darwin Award"on the first try.
We need a little more chlorine in the gene pool.
Natural Selection has failed us :(
That's because we allow lawyers to impede the will of God.
Lawyers, and OSHA took the place of natural selection. Keeping these thinking deficiant people alive.
What ever happened to making a 180 and going back the way you came. What an idiot. Of course some lawyer is telling her she has a great case.
Maybe Google thought she was a Chevy.
clearly she had only a short-block (i.e. missing heads). No wonder she had to walk.
"You honor, this double bacon cheeseburger with biggie fries made me fat."
Do we not know how to look up from our map and realize maybe we should go over a block for a while?
Oh boy... there are no words...
Was she chewing gum?
That would take more brain power than she apparently has. Maybe she should have, then she wouldn't have been walking.
Was she too focused on looking at the gps and not paying attention to the fact that she "drifted" into the travel lane? Even if there are no sidewalks there is a shoulder next to the paved driving surface.
Of course not then she would be sueing the gum company too, for the distraction!
Haha, "Chewing gum helps me think." - "Honey, you're wasting your gum."
Sorry, immediately popped into my head! What a moron, seriously.
oh my gosh, what in the #*&#&$ is going on with people. it makes you embarrassed to be in this country, wjhat a self centered obnoxous errogant human being. you do know in gods eyes what comes around goes around. what an idiot and to the attorney who is representing this person and to all of them, you all are jerks, twisting all the laws
I want to know how the attorney kept from falling off his chair as this diz-bat told then her story.
Unfortunately we have lawyers out there that will take on these frivolous lawsuits.
Hey, that's natures will. I mean who appreciates the vulture, the hyena or the cockroach. Someone's got to pick over the dead corpses. Unfortunately, why is America now a symbol of a dead corpse that every scavenger fights over?
Come to think of it I did see a bunch of vultures toting leather satchels entering and exiting the courthouse the other day.
How is this different than saying that you weren't expecting there to be other cars on the road when you get driving directions? Google can't control what happens along the route you take. And I doubt this woman is actually dumb enough to believe in her own case, she's just trying to get money. If there is any justice in this world, this case will be thrown out.
next time make sure you finish the job
can anyone say, "frivolous lawsuit"??? she should be ticketed for being so stupid as to walk on a busy road, no matter where she got the directions.
I don't like PC either, Mac is way better...
I know what you are saying. Utah is mostly geniuses! You really have to be smart to want more wives and kids. The rest of society needs to recognize a great religion and way of life when they see it!
The sheep in Utah are not anal retentive any longer due to morons (not mormons) like noodledick.
well, it's easy to see who fits into the SoCal moron department by the negative responses. Think you could use a bit more tact than flaming people individually, as it's forbidden by the CoC here.
Will do Capt Crunch.
The attorneys should be disbarred for such a frivolous waste of time.
Too bad the traffic did not flatten her like a squirrel. Thinning of the herd should apply here where only the smartest survive. She does not even have the embarrassment of being so stupid to walk in traffic. My god I hope she hasn't bred.
