We're still far from the sci-fi dream of having robots whirring about and catering to our every need. But little by little, we'll be sharing more of our space with robots in the next decade, as prices drop and new technology creates specialized machines that clean up spilled milk or even provide comfort for an elderly parent.
Scientists, lawyers mull effects of home robots

Yeah, right. Explain their reasoning to humans. A study released about a year ago showed that many university science students lack reasoning abilities... and we want robots to be able to explain their reasoning??? I think if we can do that then we should let them vote because they would be able to choose better political officers.
hahaha
Ghost in the shell
As regrettable as all of the aforementioned scenarios would be, I feel that a robot in the home causing damages should be covered by homeowner's insurance if it is an error in command interpretation. If there is a manifest defect due to gross negligence on the part of the manufacturer, they should be responsible for damages.
Artificial intelligence is still critically dependent upon the programmer to define operation parameters and to correct abberant code; an interesting example would be the primordial urge retained in man to jump at a gap. A robot that somehow had an abberration in its code arise directing it to go over a ledge, it cannot self correct as it would not have encountered the situation before and assuming it was never intended to be in such an environment, it would not have any preservation protocols. A person, however, can typically reason out the consequence awaiting at the end of their fall (barring inebriation, hormones, etc.).
Unfortunately, I am a biologist, so much of this is mere conjecture into computer sciences pertaining to robotics. I hope this helps spark some constructive debate on the subject.
We need robots like the japanese anime Chobits for not only companionship, but also fulfillment of sexual needs.
I think it will be great if the day ever arrives when all menial jobs are done by machines. I dont think any 5 year old wants to grow up to be a waiter or work on an assembly line in a factory, but these jobs are necessary in modern society. If AI and machines eventually take care of all of that then everyone can have a job that is more rewarding, or else no job at all.
This ia about right,LAWYERS looking to profit from something even before the industry gets off the ground. Blood suckers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
