So why is this all such a surprise to some of you? People have believed their's an invisible omnipotent man in the sky controling everything for thousands of year's. Their lives are shaped by a book written by zealots, ambitious and controling men, and nut jobs. Oh, but the whole Mayan calendar thing is crazy, lol. UFOs, ghosts, Jesus Christ the Deity (as opposed to what he really was, a Jewish reformer WHO FAILED at his mission to reform Judaism). People will believe in anything. What's new?
I do agree with you whitefeather in some regards, as our peoples of our nations tend to not do anything much to help one another. But unfortunately it is the grand design of our nation and is hardly our faults. This country is designed for and by the all mighty dollar. We as a people, from nothing built this country and now we sit and watch what we have/had built die or get sold off. And now we need to unify with one another and build again. But what good does it do to strive at this once again. Just like all times in the past our efforts are gathered by some rich owner and sold off at the first signs of distress.
Personally I find that given the predictions of Nostradamus, the Mayan calendar and facts that we have destructive forces at work every day in world. Holds some weight, and I feel that the general goodness in man will come to life should a day come when something like this happens.
As for primitive cultures like the Mayans, Sumerians and so fourth. Connecting a natural phenomena such as meteors, the moon and sun with gods does by means seem absurd to me.
In the 1800's man discovered the cell, and in the 1900's man discovered that the cell is made of even smaller particles still. Thus uncovering the true nature and make up of our universe. And will probably spend the next 300 years denying that what is can not be when the evidence has been laid out for all to see.
Actually Eric Jesus did, well not reform, but convert an number of jews. Thus Christianity. Sorry to confuse you with facts. Also, this has been going on for tens of thousands of years, not just thousands of years. A lot longer then you think.
Open your mind son. Don't hate just because you can't understand.
In my opinion, the Apocalypse, in the Biblical context, is garbage, but what the Myan artifacts have done, is open another realm of possibilities of cause and effect in the Universe. As we approach 2012, I am hoping to be alive to see what transpires, and I am anticipating some major changes in life as we know it today. I am putting my money on the science in the Myan math and it's calendars, which I believe have put to shame any credibility in the Old Testament.
thinking the world will end in 2012 is just like thinking it will end on dec 31st. It's a calendar, when it ends, it goes back to the begining again.
Also thinking that the suns alignment with the galactic core will have some cataclysmic effect is the same as thinking that a solar eclipse will end the world.
though it is curious that the mayan calendar coincides with the alignment of the galactic core. It implys that the mayans had knowledge of galactic structure and the position of the core. One would need a high power radio telescope to find it.
aside from that 2012 is just the new age Y2K. it's just superstitious fear.
I think really people being well aware of all the problems of the world, wish that some magic thing will come along and save us.
Sorry folks, if you want the world to change, you will have to get out there and work to make that change happen yourself. no aliens are going to come down from the sky and save us.
The Mayan calendar spans back millenniums and is one of the oldest existing on earth. I do believe its one of the oldest existing time references, as well as accurate too. Lets say they built it using a reference (or a star) as I'd be apt to believe and for many years marked the position on the calendar every night in reference to that same star. ( By the way I'll bet the Mayans never believed the earth was flat lol) If they kept track of the positions for say 2000 years. Would this not be an awesome feat of primitive man and his awareness. Is it not conceivable they could predict a possibly of some up coming change. If this is the case then we have these factors in play. What impact (if any) has industry with all the digging and burning going on played in such a change. Digging up resources which may have played a role in balancing the earths spin and its shear atomic weight and its path around the sun. Instead of worrying about a Mayan calendar as a people I think we should be concerned about these things most.
Life can be very difficult, almost impossible for some. There is a very weird but real fascination with the promised relief that is inherent in the belief in an end of days: "Wow! All this will be over, no matter what I do."
Alas, I don't think so. Let's just brace ourselves for some more toil and trouble, and enjoy what we can glean out of our wonderful but sometimes scary lives. Let's make good things happen while we can because we are probably in it for the duration.
I have always personally believed that the calendar marks a cycle that we today are learning from. But to not give these ancients credit for their more than precise calculations is immature at best. They used pieces of string to measure planetary alignments.
From my reading they interpret the center of our galaxy as the womb of the universe "The birthing place of planets" contrary to the modern belief that black holes are the destroyers.
Modern Science is full of Theories! I do appreciate out of the box thinking.
I would take this as a reawakening of our beliefs of past ancient cultures. There is always more than meets the eye. Always. Nothing is more complex than the simplest of things.
In the first place, this guy is no more a real Mayan Elder than I am. The hype surrounding the doomsday predictions aren't just because of the Mayan calender. It's easy for the ancient Mayan expert to discount it as legend or religious belief or even misinterpretation. Just as it's easy for the ancient Egyptian expert and the Chinese expert and the Sumerian expert. But it get's real interesting when you put all of these experts in the same room and ask them what date these cultures predicted for these events and they all say 12-21-12. In my opinion, that's something worth talking about.
LOL, do your self a favor and just get off the Obama OMG he is going to destroy the world hype for a bit...enjoy life..stop and look at a beautiful sunset...kiss someone...watch a child laugh...anything...all of this angst doesn't mean crap in the big picture...just sit back and enjoy life and this Obama roller coaster ride the world is on at the moment...you can get off any time...I did...and realized that it was freeing...peace floyd:)...
I found it funny that Nostradamus has predicted huge changes in the earth near mid November 2015. Which he is know to be off some degree (which at most is 2 to 3 years)
Read Nostradamus 101>>>he clearly describes the end of days, and it sounds like he describes the moon or comet slowly breaking up over several years and bombarding the earth... But this event he describes is a long way off as he predicts the end of WWIII being around 2070 or so and lasting near 50 years.
It seems also man, from fear will do more to harm himself than any natural disasters
Yeah but when they were ranting about the end of the world, they usually attributed it to something that went against "God's plan" or "God's will." Nowadays it's like a whole new genre of film.
People are IDIOTS,,, and the sad part is that the very young children (of the afore mentioned idiots) will never stand a chance! They are doomed to grow up to also be democrat idiots!! I mean really,,, and I quote, "It's too bad that we're getting e-mails from fourth-graders who are saying that they're too young to die," Martin said. "We had a mother of two young children who was afraid she wouldn't live to see them grow up."
THE SKY IS FALLING!!?? NO, the truth is THIS COUNTRY IS FALLING INTO COMMUNIST HANDS A LITTLE MORE EACH DAY, and we have to see this 2012 bs in the news!
The right has seen America going "communist" for the past hundred years. Are we there yet?
You're simply one more ill informed wingnut just hoping he can be proven right. Remove the tinfoil hat, and return to the ward before nursery misses you. Don't you remember what happend the last time you got to a keyboard? Hurry, now!
Just when you think mankind has made some inroads toward developing the massive gray matter in his/her craniums, gullible, sensationalism-saturated idiots show us all how easy it is to frighten people out of all common sense. Seems like these days more people want to believe in angels and demons than I can remember. Remember, gullible and utterly paranoid people.....if you're scared, you're letting someone make you feel that way. Step back and get some perspective. There's enough crap going on in the world as it is to make it worse by obsessing about things that don't exist.
Well since the world is coming to an end, I'm gonna max out my credit cards and live it up and not worry about the bills. After all, no one will be around to call and harass me!
SCFredV60- Only the fool who blindly believes in some silly little book would sit down on a highway and get run over by a truck because they believe that they'll go to some happy place in the sky as a reward for being ignorant their whole lives. I for one, as well as other sensible people that think for themselves, would do the smart thing and be IN the truck. :)
The transformation of the calendar cycle in Dec 2012 is a Mayan religious day. To say that they are 'fed up' with 2012 is like saying Christians are 'fed up' with Christmas because of media hype. They may not approve of the media marketing machine, but this does not mean that Mayans will not observe their day of religious transformation. Want to reject 2012 doomsday? Take a look at the novel that tells the story from the Mayan perspective, '2012: Under the Witz Mountain'.
People are IDIOTS,,, and the sad part is that the very young children (of the afore mentioned idiots) will never stand a chance! They are doomed to grow up to also be democrat idiots!!
Take out "democrat" and replace it with "republican."
Firstly, your saying that it is impossible without some sort of god that one planet in one solar system out of trillions of other solar systems in one galaxy out of trillions of other galaxies, was formed in a way that could sustain life? AND by the same astronomical numbers, that planet could have life? Farfetched to you, a brilliant example of the perfect astrological accident to me. As for the "creation" of simple/complex organisms, there is no "creation" to speak of. It is all very well explained by the theory of evolution. Now I know you believe it takes more faith to believe in this sort of thing, but it actually takes more math and science, something most religious people lack.
Now I understand that to you there is a lot of evidence supporting the existence of a god, specifically one god with a capitol G. There is also a lot of evidence that I know leads me to believe otherwise. So I'm going to agree to disagree in this instance. :) Have a wonderful day.
Am I the only one the math doesn't work for? years begin in 3114. 394 equals one baktun. 13 baktuns is 5112. 5112 minus 3114 is: 2008...the world ended in 2008!
Actually Dan Eden's research as made several notable scientist take notice. National Geographic has included his theories in it's Doomsday series that it's currently running. His attempt to look at the whole world instead of just looking out of our own little window of it should be applauded if anything. He's brought together the therories of severeal notable sources and has caused a few individuals to update and revise their own line of thought.
This is taking things too far. So called "freedom of the press" should not be allowed to print things that terrify young children, keeping them from sleeping at night. This is all in the name of making money. None of these so called jounalists believe this crap. They only print it to fill column inches. If there are any adults out there that believe it you would probably need several of them to screw in a light bulb.
agreed... those 4th graders that person said had their mom blogging how "scared" she is of 2012.... they have no rational parental direction. THIS is media, this article we just read, which basically says the whole thing is a bunch of bolgna. It's not the kids fault their crazy mom believes everything she hears in her nutty church gossip groups.
The Press (including the Internet) is not as it used to be. No one seems to research or go to the Dorect Source. The meaning of all of this is that the Mayan Calandar will end...which means that it marks the end of the age of the Fourth Sun and the Beginning of the Fifth Sun. European And Caucasian Cultures have failed to listen to and attempt to understand ancient Indigenous Cultures of the World includiing the Indigenous Peoples of the United States. We have much to say but no one CARES to have the Patience to listen. Arrogance in Conquening over what they do not understand and mastery over their "wild dominion" is all that has mattered. Imperialism in other words.
The Earth is a Living, Breathing Ever Changing Organism never stagnant. It not only moves on an axis but it moves elliptically and rotationally within the Universe. All ancient Peoples have known this for thousands of years, especially those of us who have had a written language before the arrival of the Europeans. Samples of these writings may be found in the Five Civilized Tribes Museum in Muskogee, OK as well as the Nationional Museum of the American Indian next to the Smithsonian Institution.
Censoring "The Press" is not the solution. Educate yourselves between what is fact-based repoting vs. bogus or fluff piece reporting just to generate hysteria and $$$ just like the television media does.
Read Literature Non-Fiction books about the subject matter that is unbiased. If its domestic Politics-Bob Woodward and John Dean. 2012-Mayan Cultual Studies. Come on...this is NOT DIFFICULT FOLKS! Before you vote read about the candidates voting records especially locally!
Americans are too proud of their freedom of speech to only read non-fiction books or anything "unbiased" about any subject matter.
This is all a hype started by hollywood so they can sell a movie. when 2013 hits all the smartie pants can sit back for a week or two on forums saying "i told you so" to people that already have their new doomsday date all planned out. Just like Y2K, this will come and go.
Plus, all those people that poured big bucks into their bomb shelter in their backyard for Y2K need to come up with some new excuses so that they don't look like idiots!
granted it looks like a cool movie and one day things which it shows may come to light. But like you I'm sure its just a bunch of hype to sell tickets. These movie people would sell thier momma's if they could get a good price (and get out working too.)
I remember having to miss a hell of a party because parents go tricked by the Y2K storm. lol They took my car keys and won't let me leave lol. Now they keep going on and on about 2012 lol damn you history channel lol
Actually, you have it backwards. The movie was created due to the hype about the date in 2012. The hype wasn't created for the movie. I've been hearing about the Myan calendar ending for long before this movie was even thought about. The only reason it's being talked about now is because it is 2009.
And the Myans are not the only ancient culture that mention this date.
Many of us parents are very involved in what our children read and believe. It becomes a problem for us when our children's TEACHERS fill their head with this crap! My daughter was taught this in a high school class and no matter what I have said, she is still concerned about this. I can't wait to show her this article!
I'm sure people like Steven Spielberg have all hit their yearly quotas for 2009 right
Let us not forget though all the large lizards which went extinct all those (millions) of years ago. And at the height of their society the Roman Empire fell. All things which come to be, will come to pass. But as always it will be a change not the end lol.
Forget about the end of the world venue. Think end of times as you know them. Besides, it wouldn't be the end of the world except maybe for most species living on the planet. If the planet makes a severe shift in its rotational axis, for example, all hell will surely break loose, like everything including tsunamis. Look at the last page of the Dresden Codex. It depicts tsunamis.
He doesn't know more, he just thinks of things differently, and you believe what he has to say, so that makes you think he knows more.
Do I think a mass extinction is possible, of course, its inevitable. Do I sit here a fear of one date set by a civilization long ago, obviously not. I believe in God, to an extent, but I prefer evolution over creation. The things your talking about won't happen in one day... only a movie coming out this year will have you see it that way. You will probably counter with an asteroid, which again is possible but not likely.
I refuse to be worry about things cause a group of crazies have nothing to do with there time... don't preach to me what you think... go out and prove it.
Under this alarmist logic, we'll never make it to 2012! My calendar runs out on December 31, 2009, to that is the end of the world! For sure...right? Hey, idiots, it's really simple. The rock they carved the calendar in was only so big. They just ran out of rock, nothing more.
Robtice, it wasn't a rock that gave up the Myan science and its calendars. It was written on the Myan, Dresdan Codex, which Spanish Catholic Priests had not destroyed in their quest for wealth and power. Google it and look at the pages deciphered.
It kind of reminds us of the U.S. heath-care industry and it's priestly lobbyists in their quest for wealth and power.
Someday, maybe will be writing about the lobbyists destroying America, and someone like you will say, "Oh, that was probably just written in stone and the stone wasn't big enough to tell the whole story."
2012 is also the date that Guy Odam surmised in his book "America's Man on Horseback" that the U.S. would have it's first dictator. You might not have to worry about that election. Check it out on Amazon.com.
Hopefully our technology can cope with increased solar radiation and other events as they transpire. The human race is ready to deal with the a natural ele event.
Anyway from what i've heard (these past 10 years as stated by Whitefeather,) ALOT of people have died from the already increased natural disasters. Forget about Katrina? And all the massive earthquakes that have claimed 10s of thousands of lives just within the past 5 years alone? I'm sorry but our technology cannot "cope" with massive scale earthquakes and tsunamis.
Not to mention the fact that the countries where these disasters happen much more frequently than us don't even have close to comparable technology as we do. (in most cases.)
I don't know what your definition of "ready" is, but if you mean the human race isn't going to die from these natural events, that's already been pretty shot down.
Yes, natural disasters have increased, all leading up to within the range of time of a change of events which we do not yet have a full comprehension of at this time, still. Do you live on high ground? Do you live in a flood plain? Do you live downslope of a mountain? Do you live along a coastline? Are you living anywhere near the Yellowstone Caldera and east of there, like all the way to the east coast? Do you live along the east coast? Ever hear of the tsunami which can be expected from across the Atlantic to hit the entire east coastline? Will you need to travel across the Mississippi to travel to the safety of the plains? That may be one bridge you will want to have already crossed.
Mother Earth may be speaking to us and reflecting the Myan calendar.
no...you people have it all wrong, incase you all forgot the world is melting inside,an what does that mean? it means the surface has to inplode on itself,so therfore it will become a blackhole an we will just float around in for awhile.
lol, 2012 is when the earth crosses into the southern hemisphere of the universe, at the same time that all the planets align, but the earth has its own poles and wont reverse causing disasters. the meteor that supposedly will hit the earth at that moment........the southern cross........i think it all ready did, australia's "earths crust" is different then the rest of the earths crust (different crystals). weird creatures evolved from that land.
so 2012 when all the astrological signs have been gone through and we are back to the starting point, do we start out at 00/00/00 again?
No, it won't start off with 00/00/0000. It will continue with 12/22/2012, at least for perhaps, only some of us. There may be a man and a woman living in a cave, who will somehow survive. They may be in Central or South America, but they may not know of the Myan calendar, or even care that it is 12/22/2012.
Regardless, Mother Earth, will likely evolve and regain its dignity from the abuses of humanity. And buffalo may roam the plains, whose dung over the eons, had fertilized and enriched the earth where corn fields thrive today.
LOL... Most people believe in global warming and all the disasters that are going to happen with scientific knowledge garnered from the Huffington Post, MSNBC, FOX, CBS, etc.
This should start a ruckus.... I truly try not to say this about many situations but this time its gotta be said... I blame religion!! It seems like its *mostly* religions fanatics that get so hyped up about "end of the world" scenarios.
I knew they were going to touch on it at some point in this article and heres where they did...
Bernal suggests that apocalypse is "a very Western, Christian" concept projected onto the Maya, perhaps because Western myths are "exhausted."
Seriously why does it seem like everyone that believes in god feels the need to tell everyone else when they believe we're all going to die?? Put down the damn book and channel that energy into something useful, like helping the problems the world actually has today! Things which WILL cause bigger problems in their childrens/grandchildrens lives, instead of what MIGHT happen in the future.
And not only what MIGHT happen, but even if it does happen, we're apparently all screwed and dead anyway!!! So EITHER WAY what difference does it make???
I'm not an athiest, more of an agnostic, I don't claim to know the truth about what happens after we die either way. I don't think anyone can actually claim that. It's only faith. Most of my friends are christians, but they don't walk around telling everyone when they're gonna die!! We just live our lives, raise our children and try to seek happiness through the search for our full potential. I wish people would stop trying to scare the rest of the world!! Is fear the only true weapon they have to try and convert someone to their belief system? Seems pretty sad and invasive to me.
Msfruhauf, well said! Bible thumpers haven't read the part in the Bible where it says..."Only God knows the end of time." It also says not to judge anyone.... and that what is a sin to you may not be a sin to another. Too bad these simple truths are not observed by all people. Our world would be so much more pleasant for all people to live in.Â
I wish people would stop trying to scare the rest of the world!! Is fear the only true weapon they have to try and convert someone to their belief system?
Because? They are making money doing that, spreading fear.
And the more money they make, the fear increases because of the fear of losing it. The fear of being poor is earth shattering to them.
And the wise natives say, respect Mother Earth. I fully expect that Bear Butte Mountain will be more frequently visited for visions and to pay respect as we approach 12/21/2012.
tiggersbounce: I know that, that was the point! My point was that nowadays it seems like the ONLY thing they've got. Instead of "god loves you, god will always be there when you need him" it's "you better believe in god because we're all gonna die soon and when you go to hell then you'll be sorry".... And with the increasing amount of athiests coming out of the closet these past few generations, turning off the love proclamation and amping up the fear doesn't seem to be working as well =/
I can't believe you people! You talk about not judging, and yet you are judging. There are many of us 'Bible Thumpers' who don't believe and don't 'preach' fear at others. There are also many people who are not 'in it for the money'. Apparently you have not done your research to realize that the majority of churches are actually VERY small and are lucky to receive enough money just to pay the basic bills to keep the building they are using running. My father-in-law is a pastor and he has never taken a salary, always worked a full-time job outside of the church, and many months had to pay some of the church bills out of his own pocket. Why? Because many of his members are from very poor and elderly families who can't afford to help with the financial side of the church.
I feel sorry for you, because apparently in order to make yourself feel better about your beliefs, you have to try to trash others.
If I generalized grossly about any other race, nationality or religion, I'd expect to be properly scolded for prejudicial thinking or for choosing a small percentage of that demographic and trying to make out my narrow observation of them to be representative of that whole demographic. But msfruhauf gets resoundingly lauded for saying
"Seriously why does it seem like everyone that believes in god feels the need to tell everyone else when they believe we're all going to die??"
And even after THAT, feels no hypocrisy whatsoever in trying to look "open-minded" by tagging on:
"Most of my friends are christians, but they don't walk around telling everyone when they're gonna die!! We just live our lives, raise our children and try to seek happiness through the search for our full potential."
Completely fence-sitting, self-contradictory, self-congratulatory, and self-righteous (regardless of religion or eschewing thereof)!
I have a simple answer to the first question:
It seems that way to you, msfruhauf et al, because humans see what they're looking for, get what they're expecting, and focus on evidence that supports their own assumptions until they inflate it in their own minds into Global Truth. It's the same offense we see in those who grasp at Mayan archeology to promote their weak "Western" faith. It's the same offense you'll repeat every time you continue to rail against Christians for being money-grubbing hypocrites instead of looking around you at the real-live Christians with whom you claim to be acquainted. You choose to see what you want to see. We all do. We're all vulnerable to it. We're all hypocrites at times. Some have evolved to where they can realize and admit it (at least at times). Some continue to point fingers, stereotype, and make juvenile overgeneralizations about other cultures, ethnicities, religions, races, creeds, colors, sexual preferences, nationalities, perspectives and ideologies that make them uncomfortable. This is not the way to be inclusive. This is not tolerant. This is not open-minded. And regardless of how you think of yourself, this behavior is not and does not appear to be intelligent.
I remember when the History Channel used to air programs that were actually about historical events and people and not retarded, horribly-rendered CGI bull@!$%# speculations about the end of the world, and so on. It's sad, what's happened to all the used-to-bed educational networks in this country. TLC used to mean "The Learning Channel". Now all they air is Parasite 1 and Parasite 2 Plus 8. Discovery used to run really good naturalism series and documentaries. Now it runs garbage like "A Haunting" and "Mythbusters".
*sigh*
The next time someone comes to me with ZOMFG 2012 WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE crap, I'm just going to agree and say, "You know, since we're all gonna eat it in two years, now's the time to just start doing things we always wanted to do but never did because of the long term consequences. Like drugs and shoplifting and bankrobberies and so on." With any luck, I'll convince someone to knock off a bank and he'll promptly get thrown in jail and it'll be one less moron on the street.
all these changes have come about since all the college graduates have taken over everything includeing corprate america.they have no common sence,we are screwed either way.
"You know, since we're all gonna eat it in two years, now's the time to just start doing things we always wanted to do but never did because of the long term consequences. Like drugs and shoplifting and bankrobberies and so on."

Yeah, who do these college graduates think they are, anyway, curing diseases and making airplane fly? We were all so much happier living in our hovels, eating mush, and dying in our twentieth year. Sheesh!
Why do you think they shipped American industry off shore? It may be written in science concerning the Yellowstone Caldera as it gets closer to blowing a cloud of fallout, choking out 2/3rds of the U.S. population.
Test: Have you ever wondered why people occupy regions devastated by volcanoes? Do you live within a few hundred miles around the Yellowstone Caldera, fanning out and east all the way to the east coast?
And you wonder why American industry has been shipped overseas?
but all the planets of our universe aligning in a straight line, that is a starting point of time. and an ending point. every 27000 years or so, only in the 7th cycle? but the earth is how old? i think someone is wrong.
No, it isn't the end of the Myan calendar. People are so vain. It isn't about people. It is about the Universe and Mother Earth. You don't count, unless, by some remote chance, you are one of the few who survive, and live, once again, in trees and caves for shelter from wild beasts of prey, which may once again proliferate the planet. It ain't going to be just you and a woman and an apple tree, if anything. I just hope there won't be a religious book remaining to screw things up if there are any people remaining who could decipher such garbage.
Times actually does exist, in that there is a past, a present, and many possible futures (Thank Quantum Physics for that one). It's our "measurements" of time which are artificial.
It's like people want the world to end just for the sheer excitement of being around to see the show. All of these stupid documentaries and books aren't helping any. Right now is a great time for anyone who wants to cash in to do so. Because after 2012 these Mayan doomsday theories are going to be irrelevant.
The world is not going to end in 2012. However anything that happens in 2012, no matter how mundane or normal, is going to be attributed to it occurring in 2012. And when 2012 comes and goes without the end of the world occurring people will just ravenously look for the next doomsday prophecy.
The world is going to be around for a good long time. It's not ending any time soon. I wish people would stop being such downers and look towards a brighter future rather than doom and gloom all the time.
Doomsday, 2012, Y2K, the Rapture, 1984, Millenialism are all just the fantasies of folks who cannot stand the thought of going to work on Monday morning. Eternal Snow Day Forever!
Just look at history. Man-kind has used fear as a controlling factor to implement power over other people since the time of recorded history. Religion, governments, you name it, they all use fear to control society.
Here is a prediction: Tomorrow has a good chance of being messed up more than yesterday! Get used to it, the end is near! LOL
it is widely believed that the dinosaurs were wiped out by a meteor. Astronomers and NASA can easily predict large meteors to hit earth in the future. For example, NASA predicts (very precisely and accurately) that a meteor will come very close to hitting Earth on, get this, Friday April 13 2029. But it will not hit. Then in 2036 the same meteor again on Friday April 13 2029 (weird) will come even closer and dip below our orbiting satillites, which is dangerously close to earth, but it will not hit. This is all assuming that nothing disrupts the orbital pattern of this meteor, which shouldn't happen anyway. I'm only 15 years old and in 10th grade, but I seem to be a lot more educated on topics involving the "end of the world" than many adults, although that may be an unfair generalization, I don't know.
I HAVE a girlfriend . we've been going out for like a couple months. Not to mention thats completely unrelated retard. Just cause i may be smarter than you, doesn't mean you need to make useless insults. I also bet you assume cause I knew all that, you think I have no life??? well screw you man
architect, I'm glad someone of your age is reading, regularly, and contributing to a discussion. that is a miracle in itsself. Don't ruin it by picking fights with your elders. I don't think Danny was trying to insult you so much as point out that at 15 you should be concerned with the concerns of kids, not so much with the end of the world. I don't think its so much that you are "more educated" about this stuff than adults are (adults is an extremely generalized term btw), i think its that adults realise you can't really be educated about the end of the world, by nature of the end itsself
Really, the Maya gave dates of stuff past 2012, just the calendar ended. Nostradamus, he gave an end date of 3700 something. If you follow the Bible, it says no man shall know the exact date, time or hour.
I do believe it is more controlled media propaganda and it's almost like polling. The elite that are in control of this country play with stuff like this to see how it effects people, the reactions and helps to give them direction for long term plans. These people do follow ancient mystic beliefs. The original NASA logo depicting the 3 pyramids, Horus, etc. Neil Armstrong pictured wearing a Masonic lambskin while standing on the moon! Give me a break!
It should put a real spike in sales of survival gear and sporting goods in Dec 2012! They do try to control us using fear and greed. Two great weaknesses of man and they know it.
Let's just keep shooting rockets at the moon, see how that screws things up and maybe they can bring about events similar to 2012 before that date ever gets here! Idiots!
The best scoop on this is at http://divinecosmos.com/
Y2K all over again...."SERENITY NOW"!!!!
Why do people love to fear the end of the world?
Man's fear of the "end times" has been going on since the beginning of time.
We're specks of dust people...get over yourselves...
go to www.shiftoftheages.com for the real truth. Over 73.21% of the U.S. Population is FUNCTIONALLY ILLITERATE! Meaning people do not know how to distinguish garbage from fact, legitimate or bogus research. The dumbing down of America is going through its third generation...WAKE UP PEOPLE start volunteering in your communities and help with your Public Libraries (what few are now open) in their literacy projects!
It only took 5 posts before a teabagger brought Obama into the discussion. Don't hate just because you're stupid.
All I know is that I'm not buying any Christmas gifts in 2012- a real savings for me!
thinking the world will end in 2012 is just like thinking it will end on dec 31st.
In my opinion, that's something worth talking about.
the only thing I can think of being catastropic in 2012 is obama being re-elected president.
Why do people love to fear the end of the world?
WAKE UP AMERICA!!!!!!
harley, harley!
Take a look at the novel that tells the story from the Mayan perspective, '2012: Under the Witz Mountain'.
http://www.witzmountain.com
bring it on, i wont have to watch newsvine anymore
1.5 deleted, DTNIC01 derailing about Obama. Stop threadcrapping, please.
Is it really that addictive?
Mayans are thinking; don't blame us, blame Global Warming...hehehe
1 restored, clarity.
Am I the only one the math doesn't work for? years begin in 3114. 394 equals one baktun. 13 baktuns is 5112. 5112 minus 3114 is: 2008...the world ended in 2008!
http://www.viewzone.com/endtime.html
Oh for the love of god sowhy please tell me you don't actually believe that link your posting.
It's not the fault of the press.
It's the childrens' parents that fill their heads with crap.
agreed... those 4th graders that person said had their mom blogging how "scared" she is of 2012.... they have no rational parental direction.
Steven Spielberg's busy with Jurrassic Park 4 and some other stuff.
can't wait until the box office reviews to see how 2012 stacks up to Jurrassic Park 4>>>should be interesting to see.
I can't choose with Steven Spielberg's movies, that's sacreligious to me.
and we all should stock up on some mushrooms just in case...it could be a cool sky show!
I'm with u!
Then maybe the press will have a sip or two and revel their sources or did they just make it up, or their own bias opinions?
Maybe the religious right will have a glass and realize that they are really "Dorthy" clones and Murdock is the "Wizard".
Then the Democrats will have a drink and learn to govern and not to lie.
And maybe these gun tote'n public advocates will go to the same bar to "have few rounds" together" (duck).
And maybe the IRS will sip a little and drop the tax code and have a flat tax for every SSN#.
Maybe the illegals will actually get legal and pay taxs! What a novel idea.
Maybe congress will repeal these retirement bennies of old politicians that are millionaires?
And maybe, just maybe ( couple of gallons worth) We as taxpayers could have the same health plan as the people we elected to work for us?
Sounds kinda peaceful don't it?
Don't worry to setting the alarm clock....................
Man can live without food for long periods of time, but you can only live without water about 2 days<<<hints. I'd say mushrooms are optional.
Man can live without food for long periods of time, but you can only live without water about 2 days<<<hints. I'd say mushrooms are optional.
well it is a convient date.... close enough to christmas that my credit cards will be maxed out anyway
well 25 to 30% of them anyways.
We'll all be dead of swine flu by then anyway.
I think I have it now.
buggers, yuba2ooo...i have already had it...it sucks...be well
They should make a 2013 calendar for the heck of it and sell it to all the nut jobs that believe that 12/21/2012 is the end of the world
Forget about the end of the world venue.
Whitefeather knows more than you, Mark.
The Mayans should have spent less time calculating the end of the earth and spent more time develping a smallpox vaccine.
I refuse to be worry about things cause a group of crazies have nothing to do with there time... don't preach to me what you think... go out and prove it.
good idea! and rename january to doh!!!
LOL!!! Surely a professional comedian will pick this line up!
Under this alarmist logic, we'll never make it to 2012! My calendar runs out on December 31, 2009, to that is the end of the world! For sure...right? Hey, idiots, it's really simple. The rock they carved the calendar in was only so big. They just ran out of rock, nothing more.
the same thing is with super computers..they do acutally run out of room to calcuate stuff!
The only thing i am worried about this the 2012 Election!
2012 is also the date that Guy Odam surmised in his book "America's Man on Horseback" that the U.S. would have it's first dictator. You might not have to worry about that election. Check it out on Amazon.com.
One has to wonder how Obama's rating will stack up, after giving the economy a lobotomy Huh!!
2012 will be the only real change we will see.
I look for increased natural disasters.
Hopefully our technology can cope with increased solar radiation and other events as they transpire. The human race is ready to deal with the a natural ele event.
Oh Anthony where have you been for the past 10 yrs? Natural Disasters have accelerated tenfold.
What's a "a natural ele event"?
Maybe in 2012 the world will be hit by a 1 gram rock alternating the orbit of the earth off course some how into the sun.
I wish.
no...you people have it all wrong, incase you all forgot the world is melting inside,an what does that mean? it means the surface has to inplode on itself,so therfore it will become a blackhole an we will just float around in for awhile.
I think at worst a polar shift could set off some tectonic shifts which could set off several natural disasters.
lol, 2012 is when the earth crosses into the southern hemisphere of the universe, at the same time that all the planets align, but the earth has its own poles and wont reverse causing disasters. the meteor that supposedly will hit the earth at that moment........the southern cross........i think it all ready did, australia's "earths crust" is different then the rest of the earths crust (different crystals). weird creatures evolved from that land.
so 2012 when all the astrological signs have been gone through and we are back to the starting point, do we start out at 00/00/00 again?
00/00/00, haha, wonder if there will be a movie for that too. (9, from 09/09/09, 2012 about all this garbage, and so on...)
So, first it was BC, but what more can be said after "AD - after death" lol
"AD? Who's he?"
"Oh it's AD now is it? I'll have to get a new bloody watch......"
... omg and what about leap year!!? this screws up EVERYTHING!!!
~~sarcasm~~
Why should 2012 be any different?
This should start a ruckus.... I truly try not to say this about many situations but this time its gotta be said... I blame religion!! It seems like its *mostly* religions fanatics that get so hyped up about "end of the world" scenarios.
I knew they were going to touch on it at some point in this article and heres where they did...
Because? They are making money doing that, spreading fear.
And the more money they make, the fear increases because of the fear of losing it. The fear of being poor is earth shattering to them.
"Is fear the only true weapon they have to try and convert someone to their belief system?"
Yes, fear is used by the churches to control people.
Now with that title it would be a documentary!
love the phrase, good 1!
LOL, when can we start?
Yeah, who do these college graduates think they are, anyway, curing diseases and making airplane fly? We were all so much happier living in our hovels, eating mush, and dying in our twentieth year. Sheesh!
That would explain why this administration is spending $$$$$$ like there is no tomorrow so where's my stimulus check?
your check? is in my bank account.
The end? No it's the end of the calendar. calendars are not time. neither are clocks.
but all the planets of our universe aligning in a straight line, that is a starting point of time. and an ending point. every 27000 years or so, only in the 7th cycle? but the earth is how old? i think someone is wrong.
I'm impressed to see the vast majority of posters here see this foolishness for what it is; hype and hysteria.
the planets are not going to "line up and start or stop time" go read what NASA says abouth that...
There really is no such thing as time either...
I wish people would stop being such downers and look towards a brighter future rather than doom and gloom all the time.
yes we all love doomsday!!!!
LOL
Well the dinosaurs were wiped out, what is so great about Humans that they can 't be wiped out?
we are special, besides, the dinosurs were wiped out cause we needed the oil for our cars.
it is widely believed that the dinosaurs were wiped out by a meteor.
15 years old????? man you need a girl friend.
Thanks for that comment dickerson. yea I guess i went a bit overboard haha oh well
Yawn. Someone wake me on 22 December 2012.
Idiots!
I would have to agree with you on the majority of that. Exempting the part at the end about NASA, cause they've done a lot of good.
Better get our duct tape!!
