I've debated getting <3 about 10pt in a color to match my darker freckles. Only tattoo I've ever considered at all.
I'm not suprised by some of these Tats. If you are passionate about something, you want to incorporate it into your self-expression. Of course, I truly believe that if you *are* going to get a tattoo, you should have the image drawn up, and put it someplace you will see it everydy for about 6 mos. If you still like it, then get it.
I always thought the HTML tags were funny, but I couldn't do it. Hard to explain in 30 years when HTML has gone the way of punchcards.
I have several tattoos, though none that I would consider "geeky". Some of these are certainly laughable, but beauty, eye, beholder... nuff said. Whatever you do, just make sure you really want this on your skin for the rest of your life. Just because you're a geek, don't mean you're smart.
I have 8 tattoos at the moment. All of wolves and hawks. Each one was thought out long before walking into a tattoo shop. None of these are geeky, but...they have given me some ideas.. :)
I simply liked the article and the writer's sense of humor. Nice job.
Wow! I feel like I've just been lectured by someone's mom who is an Apple fangrrl for all the wrong reasons.
The article is actually kind of pointless. Most of this body art isn't hard to find. And what difference should it make if you're getting an Atari logo or a dragon tattoo'd on your arm? Hearing people moan about tattoo work is like listening to a Sunday school teacher babbling on about "that loud rock and roll stuff."
As for me? I have a Tangerine Dream tattoo. I don't know if I would consider it geek. To me geek is about the technology and, frankly, I don't consider comic book or video game junk as geek. And it's not to say I don't like to game but I do take the technology side of geekdom very seriously and I think the Star Wars fans who can't do a webpage in notepad or install their own memory are just giving geek a bad name.
"To me geek is about the technology..."
Geek - one who is perceived to be overly obsessed with one or more things including those of intellectuality, electronics, etc."[
A geek is someone who is super into something, so anything can be geeky. I could call my step dad a car geek, because he's way into cars.
Care to cite what dictionary that's out of? I checked on dictionary.com and neither of their sources support your definition while both of them supported mine.
And if you don't think cars aren't technology than you don't know much about either subject.
I have nothing against tattoos - and actually I love the artwork of the great ones. However, Many tech tattoos, without some thought, will be outdated within months. Given the speed of technology change and upgrades many will look silly in the future. Maybe good for a laugh, if that is what you going for... My advice: Picture yourself in an old folks community, with the wrinkled version of the tattoo you are about to choose - Then ask, "would I really want people laughing at my tattoo, at that point in my life??"
Dear Lord, won't that be interesting; when the old folks homes are filled with today's skateboarders and geeks. 95-year-old ladies in wheelchairs wearing ambercrombie pants, and wheelchairs with chains hanging off of them... and the whole darn place rocking to some kind of terrible tunes...
That is an image! Worse than seeing the tattoos on seriously old people. What happens when you grow up and get respectable. Big geeks rule the world. Want to be seen with some outdated tattoo hanging out at a swank resort pool or beach with totally hot babes wondering what you were thinking?
What about all these women getting tattoos on their chests? How could you even find clothes to cover that up should you have to get an office job and become a *gasp* suit-wearing, semi-normal person?
I think if you can live with a tattoo all your life, make sure its what you really really want. These tattoos some times really hurt. I have my name in a circle of fire like the blaze sun. It's really cute. I did this for me, no one else ok. I would never put someone name on my body.
I have a Bettie Page Tattoo in a Very Feminine pose in a Bathing suit --- A ICON of BEAUTY will be TIMELESS Long after your "Tech" Junk is Obsolete !!!
I'm old enough to know NOT to do things that are irrevocable if I can possibly help it.....It'll come back and bite you every single time sooner or later.
Another point I see is that, generally, people get tattoos to demonstrate how unique they are, like everyone else with a tattoo.....
I've never really seriously considered a tattoo, although I'm 56 and most of the guys I know my age have at least one, and many have more than one...But I can't think of anything that I'd be thrilled to look at every single day of my life...If I had a choice, and could put it on or remove it, I may wear it always and cherish it....But just the fact that, no matter WHAT the circumstances...it's there, it's part of me, and there's nothing I can do about it.....
And it bears mentioning that every single person I know that has had a tattoo for over 20 years says they hate it and would love to be rid of it....I can understand that...People change, society changes, what is cool today will almost certainly be the subject of derison in 10 years....
And that mutilation, and it IS "mutilation" by definition, will be there to guide you through all of it...Until you die.
Irrevocable? Please.
It's easier to get a tattoo removed than anything posted to the internet.
Ha! 40% of Americans in your age group have at least one tattoo. If 40% of Americans live in regret, then I'd prefer to die before I get there. I refuse to live in bitterness - but it sounds as though you're on the opposite end of the spectrum. Keep those kids off your lawn.
Yes, estcst, you can have it removed...As long as you don't mind the scarring or pigment-free splotch that you THEN have....
Seems to ME that's even worse than the tattoo....It shows that you have a tendency to take irreversable actions then change your mind......
It's not like you can just take a shower and wash a tattoo off...Even if you DO have it removed you still have a disfigurement....
So, yes...Tattoos are irrevocable.
"Watching the pachyderms: "Tattoos are, and always will be - lowlife. Now with tech corp. advertising? Lowlife AND stupid. How classy.""
******************************
How narrow minded is that?
Wonder what your definition of "classy" is?
Better look around and see how many of your friends have tats before you go calling them all "lowlifes"..........
Tattoos are one of the oldest forms of art among humans. I agree with you. Denying the artistic value of tattoos is like denying that the Mona Lisa is a form of creative expression.
I didn't get my tattoo to be unique. I did it to commemorate where I'm from and a huge turning point in my life. It's affirming and uplifting to see it every day. Regret it? No. Visible? Yes. Lowlife? Ouch.
That said, getting an Apple logo.... seriously? We have enough advertising in this world run by corporations. I wouldn't use so much as an iPod. (You're paying for the name, anyway.)
I have 5 tattoos - a spirituality-based set. Planning my next set of tattoos will be more practical and reflect who I am: geek symbols, tools, humor.
I was GOING to submit my Bender Bending Rodriguez tattoo for consideration...until my POS Windows machine died and took my picture with it. By the time I got home I'd forgotten about the geeky tats.
Bender's apartment number is 00100100, which is underneath my commemoration of his greatness.
"This is the first 34 digits (including the decimal) of pi in binary."
Not! No wonder it was submitted by "Anonymous"! No true geek would be this bad at grammar AND math! Sheesh! And who are the morons who helped this tat achieve the #1 ranking?
Google "pi in binary" to get the correct bit-string start of pi in binary.

My Tat is related to fiber art, rather than tech, but it certainly can be considered geeky!
